About

Background
I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Derby in 2008 and took my undergraduate research to conference that summer. This experience helped me to establish that psychology research was a feasible career area for me. After this I spent a year working in two applied settings. One was for Probation Services supporting the delivery of offending behaviour programmes and the other was for a direct access night shelter supporting vulnerable people from a variety of backgrounds.

The continued contact and support of Dr. Maggie Gale, my undergraduate dissertation supervisor encouraged me to apply for a postgraduate research studentship with the University of Derby, which I began in November 2009.

Alongside my research role I am an associate lecturer and I teach seminar sessions on psychology research methods modules. I also deliver lectures about plagiarism for research modules in the school of science.

Research Interests
I am interested in cognitive psychology, particularly the area of thinking and reasoning. My research focussed on hypothesis testing behaviours and associated cognitive processes.

My current area of research is in pedagogic psychology. I am especially interested in attitudes towards authorship in the higher education setting. This research is related to beliefs about academic writing and plagiarism held by students and academic staff.
